“The RADIAL Project has had a significant impact at the Glasgow School of Art. The GSA values creative disruption, a responsibility to our planet and working collaboratively, all of which have been key to the delivery of RADIAL. The project has innovative and inclusive approaches to working with students. There has been significant interest and new links to our curriculum through their work”
Professor Tom Innes, Director, Glasgow School of Art

As a culmination of the RADIAL project our aim was to build momentum to a final burst of celebration which became the first ever cross-university sustainability festival; Glasgow Goes Green.

A week of action lead up to the event, whilst on the night our community, volunteers and 600+ attendees came together to share and exchange ideas surrounding environmental issues; building a strong network for the future.

We felt that the design of the event was key to its success. We wanted to move away from a traditional stall format and instead have dynamic points of engagement. These included: Cider tasting brewed from surplus fruit, clothes swap, music, film corner, repair, Q&A with Patrick Harvey and exhibition of reuse, including bottle sculpture which hung 1000 plastic drinks bottles: the amount collected from only 1 bin in GU campus over a week.

The initial design made space for it to regenerate each year through a system of mentors-mentees. This has been embraced and continues to adapt each year, progressing ideas and retaining ownership in the community.

This short film was commissioned to document and share the first festival.
